Global Translator is a free and open source Wordpress Plugin which is able to dynamically translate your blog in the following thirteen different languages: English, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Greek, Dutch.
The number of available translations will depend on your blog language and the translation engine you will chose to use. The most powerful features which Global Translator provides are:

Double Translation Engine System

it has the ability to provide the translations by using both Google Translation Engine and Babel Fish

Search Engine Optimized

it uses the permalinks by adding the language code at the beginning of all your URI. For example the english version on www.domain.com/mycategory/mypost will be automatically transformed in www.domain.com/en/mycategory/mypost

Fast Caching System

a built-in cache is provided in order to reduce the online connections to the translation engines

Fully configurable layout

you can easily customize the appearance of the translation bar by choosing between a TABLE or DIV layout for the flags bar and by selecting the number of translations to make available to your visitors

The caching system can start creating a lot of files. I turned it off. Sometimes you may have problems with the translations, because Google thinks your site is a bot if it gets too many requests. Otherwise, this is perhaps the best translator plugin currently available. With the caching enabled, it works well to get your pages indexed in other languages.

[...] you WordPress users I just saw a plugin come through my RSS reader called the “WordPress Global Translator Plugin” which looks exciting and very practical for WordPress sites with an international presence [...]

You, just-english speaking people, don’t really realize how bad those automatic translations could be. Pls, if you use these tools, remember that you’re not giving a professional service with them, but just a “patch” to help a stranger to vaguely understand the meaning of your articles. And when I say “vaguely” I mean “really vaguely”…

Don’t take as an example of the overall quality the “(other language) to english” translations. English has a structure which is much simpler than many foreign language and is a language so important in the modern world that its “translations engines” are the best ones around. Most of the other languages are not so lucky, the engines are vey bad, and the translations are usually funny… or even worse tragic.
So, if you have a professional service and need to talk to strangers keeping a high profile, pay for a human translator. Believe me, you won’t regret it.

thanks, this is a very good option for webmasters!
